Verloren Schatten are Petra Brücken and Heike Engels
This eponymous release on Michael Begg’s Omnempathy label is their first recording.
They are based in Munich and Edinburgh and say only this of their sound:
“Verloren Schatten make musik for the sacred night by stealing into churches after dark to play their songs.
“Each track is a proposition that says the divine kernel can be found within a single chord. Proceed slowly and turn the chord inside out until you feel your heart tear.”
There is a viscous nocturnal quality to their music that gives credence to their claim of performing after hours in churches. The synths are deep and velvety dark, often counterpointed by passages of strings that call to mind the mathematically precise mysteries of holy minimalism.
